Robyn Rihanna Fenty is a singer, songwriter and actress born on February 20, 1988 in Saint Michael, Barbados.

Rihanna lived the life of a normal island girl going to Combermere, a sixth form college. She won numerous beauty pageants and performed Mariah Carey’s single “Hero” at a school talent show. Her life changed forever when one of her friends introduced her to Evan Rodgers, a New York producer who was in Barbados on vacation. Rodgers arranged for her to go to New York to meet Jay Z, CEO of Def Jam. Records. He heard her sing and knew she was going to be incredibly successful. Rihanna was 16 years old when she signed with Def Jam. Since then, she has racked up phenomenal success.

In 2005, Rihanna rose to fame with the release of A Girl like Me (2006), which reached the top 10 of the US Billboard charts. She assumed creative control of her third studio album Good Girl Gone Bad (2007) and adopted a public image as a sex symbol as she re-invented her music.

Her hit single Umbrella became an international breakthrough in her career, as she won her first Grammy Award for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration with Jay Z in 2008. After releasing four consecutive platinum studio albums, including the Grammy Award-winning Unapologetic (2012), was recognized as a pop icon.

Rihanna is one of the best-selling artists of all time. She was named Digital Songs Artist of the 2000s and Top 100 Artist of the 2010s by Billboard. Rihanna has won eight Grammy Awards, twelve American Music Awards, twelve Billboard Music Awards and the inaugural Icon Award at the 2013 American Music Awards.
